Voiceless
In 2016 the UK voted to leave the European Union. One and a half million 16 and 17 year olds were not given the chance to have their say in what was regarded as the biggest national decision since the Second World War.
Young people will have to live through the consequences of this decision. It will affect every area of their lives, from jobs and education to travel and peace.
In 2014, 16 and 17 year olds voted in the Scottish independence referendum. This granted them a say in a monumental national decision, and forged a closer relationship between young people and politics. At this age, young people are expected to pay taxes and have the right to marry, so why can't they vote?
Now aged 18 and 19, these individuals would be eligible to vote in a second EU referendum. This project is a documentation of the portraits and birth dates of these once disenfranchised young people as they come to terms with the impact of the Brexit decision and gain their right to vote.
