Modernist Plymouth
Plymouth's status as a major port during the Second World War made the city an important target to the German Luftwaffe, and much of the city centre was destroyed in the Plymouth Blitz. The redevelopment of the city was designed by Sir Patrick Abercrombie in his 1943 Plan for Plymouth.
Modernist Plymouth explores the way new modernist architecture turned Plymouth into a reimagined city of the future, and how these buildings still stand as a symbol of the hope and optimism of the previous generation.
